Lucas Lima gave Canada the lead early in the second half, but Richard Martínez responded minutes later as Honduras rescued a valuable point in Puebla.
Honduras controls possession before halftime
The opening 45 minutes produced few clear-cut opportunities despite Honduras enjoying slightly more of the ball. The Central Americans held a narrow edge in possession and spent more time in Canada’s half, but struggled to turn that control into dangerous chances.
In fact, Honduras managed the only shot on target of the first half, while both teams largely canceled each other out through midfield in a tightly contested and physical battle.
Canada remained patient defensively and waited for opportunities to attack after the break.
Lucas Lima breaks the deadlock
The match opened up considerably in the second half, with Canada becoming much more dangerous going forward.
The breakthrough arrived in the 57th minute when Lucas Lima created space just outside the penalty area with a clever cut inside before beating the Honduran goalkeeper with a composed right-footed finish to give Canada a deserved 1-0 advantage.
The goal forced Honduras to push numbers forward as it searched for an equalizer that would keep its tournament hopes alive.
Honduras responds to earn a crucial point
The pressure paid off less than 10 minutes later.
Richard Martínez attacked down the right flank and delivered a dangerous ball into the area that sailed over goalkeeper Izan Server and into the net, leveling the match at 1-1 in the 66th minute.
After finding the equalizer, Honduras became more conservative, while Canada regained control of possession and searched for a late winner.
The Canadians nearly found it in the closing stages, but Emrick Fotsing was unable to convert a golden opportunity in the 86th minute with the goal at his mercy.
The draw leaves Canada with four points from its opening two matches and still leading Group C on goal difference, while Honduras picked up its first point of the tournament and will now need to defeat Panama in its final group-stage match to keep its hopes of reaching the quarterfinals alive.
Canada, meanwhile, will close the group stage against Jamaica in a match that will determine the final standings in Group C.
