Blue Jays sign Patrick Corbin amid early rotation injuries
The Toronto Blue Jays have signed veteran left-hander Patrick Corbin to a one-year, $1 million contract to enhance their starting rotation amid injury concerns. Corbin has a solid track record, making at least 30 starts each season for the past five years, providing stability as the Blue Jays navigate early-season challenges.
The Toronto Blue Jays have added veteran left-hander Patrick Corbin on a one-year, $1 million deal, addressing mounting depth concerns in their starting rotation early in the 2026 season.
Corbin, 36, has been optioned to Single-A Dunedin as he builds up following the signing, but his arrival comes at a time when Toronto is managing multiple injuries among its pitching staff. With several starters sidelined or unavailable, the move provides an experienced option who could factor into the major league rotation in the near term.

The Blue Jays’ rotation has already been tested in the opening weeks. José Berríos, Shane Bieber and Trey Yesavage are all working their way back from injuries, while recent adjustments have forced the team to lean on internal options. Reliever Mason Fluharty is scheduled to start Saturday’s game against the Chicago White Sox after Eric Lauer was pushed back due to illness, underscoring the current strain on available arms.
Corbin brings durability that few pitchers in the league can match. He is one of just four MLB pitchers to make at least 30 starts in each of the last five seasons, alongside current Blue Jays Kevin Gausman and Dylan Cease, as well as José Berríos. Since 2017, Corbin leads all pitchers in starts and ranks among the top in innings pitched, reflecting a consistent ability to take the ball every fifth day.
In 2025, Corbin made 30 starts for the Texas Rangers, posting a 4.40 ERA and 1.36 WHIP across 155.1 innings. While those numbers place him closer to league average, his workload remains a key asset, particularly for a team seeking stability through a demanding schedule.
Over a 13-year major league career, Corbin has accumulated 354 starts across stints with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Washington Nationals and Rangers. He holds a 110-142 record with a 4.51 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 1,860 strikeouts in more than 2,000 innings pitched.
His résumé also includes two All-Star selections and a World Series title with Washington in 2019. Among active pitchers, he ranks near the top in starts and innings pitched, reinforcing his profile as a veteran capable of handling significant volume.
