24-Player Roster Announced for Canada U17 Women’s National Team

Canada Soccer has confirmed the 24 player roster for the Women’s Under 17 National Team as the program opens its 2026 calendar with an international preparation camp in Spain. The February camp marks the first major step toward the Concacaf Women’s U 17 Championship Qualifiers in March, which will determine qualification for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The camp signals the beginning of a new cycle for the youth program, blending returning experience with a broad group of players stepping into the U 17 age category for the first time.

A new cycle with familiar faces

The roster includes 22 selected players and two training players, all born on or after January 1, 2009. Four players return from the squad that competed at the FIFA U 17 Women’s World Cup in 2025, bringing valuable continuity into the group.

Mélyna Alexis, Gabriela Istocki, Lacey Kindel and Reed Tingley provide a link between cycles, while the remainder of the roster reflects emerging talent drawn from professional academies, elite youth clubs and the Canada Soccer National Development Centre network.

International preparation in Spain

Canada will be based in Salou, Spain, from February 2 to February 14, using the camp as both a development environment and a competitive test. The team will play three international matches at Futbol Salou Stadium.

Canada opens the schedule against Andorra on February 7, followed by two matches against Finland on February 10 and February 13. The fixtures are designed to give the squad repeated exposure to international match demands ahead of the Concacaf qualifiers.

Interim leadership for a critical window

The camp will be led by Jesse Acteson on an interim basis as Head Coach and Women’s Youth Excel Program Lead Jen Herst continues her recovery from a medical procedure. Acteson brings recent experience with the age group, having worked with the technical staff at the FIFA U 17 Women’s World Cup in 2025 and leading the Women’s U 16 National Team during its December identification camp.

Acteson emphasized the importance of this stage in the cycle, noting that the focus is on integrating players, setting standards and shaping the team’s identity ahead of competitive qualifiers.
