Raul Lopez

Inter Toronto Football Club continues shaping its roster with an eye on experience and competitive balance, announcing the signing of Mexican defender Raúl López on a contract guaranteed through the 2026 season. The addition brings a proven presence to the club’s back line as it prepares for the next phase of its project in Canadian professional football.

A career built at the top level

At 32, López arrives in Toronto with more than 300 appearances across Liga MX, having competed for some of Mexico’s most established clubs, including Chivas, Pachuca, Toluca and Santos Laguna. Known for his reliability, tactical awareness and ability to operate along the right side of the defence, López has built a reputation as a steady performer in high-pressure environments.

His journey has also included a recent stint in Europe with FC Rànger’s, where he gained experience in the Andorran top flight before making the move to Canada.

Leadership and versatility for Inter Toronto

Head coach Mauro Eustáquio highlighted López’s professionalism and understanding of elite-level competition as key factors behind the signing. For a club focused on building a strong identity, López offers leadership both on the pitch and in the locker room, qualities that can help guide a growing squad through demanding stretches of the season.

His versatility allows him to contribute not only defensively but also in structured build-up play, providing Inter Toronto with tactical flexibility on the right flank.

A decorated résumé on the international stage

López’s career includes notable success beyond domestic league play. He was part of Pachuca’s 2016–17 Concacaf Champions Cup triumph, scoring the opening goal in the two-legged final against Tigres UANL and playing every minute of the series. That victory sent Pachuca to the FIFA Club World Cup, where the team finished third.

Internationally, López has represented Mexico at multiple major tournaments. His honours include a Copa MX title, a gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games, and participation at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. He has also earned seven senior caps for Mexico, most recently appearing at the 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup.

A new challenge in Toronto

For López, the move to Inter Toronto represents a fresh chapter late in a well-travelled career. He spoke about his motivation to compete and contribute to a project he sees moving in a positive direction, emphasizing his desire to help the club grow through both performance and experience.

As Inter Toronto continues to assemble a roster blending youth with proven professionals, López’s arrival signals an emphasis on stability and leadership as the club looks to establish itself as a consistent force.
