Less than a minute into the second half, Ruben Vargas found space inside the penalty area and fired past Canada’s goalkeeper to give Switzerland a 1-0 lead. The goal shifted the momentum and silenced the home crowd at BC Place.
The visitors doubled their advantage just minutes later. Johan Manzambi, who had already helped create the opening goal, finished another dangerous attacking move to make it 2-0 and put Switzerland firmly in control.
Canada responds with brilliant team goal
Jesse Marsch looked for a spark by introducing Promise David, and the substitute delivered almost immediately.
Nathan Saliba produced one of the standout assists of the tournament with a clever first touch before slipping the ball into David’s path. The Canadian striker finished confidently to reduce the deficit and ignite the crowd for the closing stages.
The goal gave Canada renewed belief, and the hosts pushed forward searching for an equalizer. Several dangerous attacks followed during the final 15 minutes, but Switzerland held firm to preserve its lead.

Despite the defeat, Canada advances to the Round of 32 after finishing second in Group B.
Instead of remaining in Vancouver, Canada will now travel to Los Angeles for its knockout match on Sunday, June 28, where South Korea is expected to be the opponent.
Switzerland, meanwhile, finishes atop Group B and remains in Vancouver for its Round of 32 fixture on July 2 while also benefiting from additional rest before the knockout stage.
Although Canada fell short of winning the group, the team showed resilience after trailing by two goals and will carry momentum from another competitive performance into the next phase of the tournament.
