With the FIFA World Cup 2026 now just weeks away, FIFA has officially introduced the FIFA Fan ID, a new interactive experience created for supporters attending matches across Canada, Mexico and the United States.

The launch comes as excitement continues building toward the largest tournament in football history, featuring 48 national teams, 104 matches and millions of supporters expected to travel throughout North America this summer.

Available free for every official ticket holder, the FIFA Fan ID is designed as both a collectible keepsake and a digital experience that will connect fans to exclusive tournament content throughout the competition.

The initiative is part of FIFA’s broader effort to modernize the fan experience during major tournaments, combining physical memorabilia with digital interaction in a way that encourages supporters to stay connected before, during and after matches.

How the FIFA Fan ID will work during World Cup 2026

Supporters attending matches will be able to collect their physical FIFA Fan ID card inside any of the 16 FIFA World Cup 2026 stadiums. FIFA confirmed that designated pickup locations will be available after fans enter the venue.

Once activated by tapping the card on a mobile phone, supporters unlock access to an exclusive digital platform connected directly to the tournament.

The experience will include augmented reality video messages, FIFA Rewards access, stadium information, matchday recommendations and special activations tied to the competition.

Fans will also have the opportunity to personalize official World Cup merchandise using their own photos alongside selected tournament imagery provided through the platform.

According to FIFA, additional content and experiences will continue being released throughout the tournament, encouraging supporters to keep using the card across multiple matchdays.

The governing body also said supporters should explore the platform early, as certain experiences and digital activations may vary depending on the stadium, matchday or phase of the tournament.

FIFA aims to create a more interactive fan experience

FIFA President Gianni Infantino described the initiative as another step toward making the tournament experience more immersive for supporters traveling to the matches.

“Your FIFA Fan ID is your gateway to a world of exclusive content, unforgettable experiences and memories that you can keep and share,” Infantino said in FIFA’s official announcement.

The organization is encouraging supporters to arrive early at stadiums to fully explore the new features before kickoff. Matchday entertainment zones are expected to open at least three hours before games, offering live entertainment, activations and giveaways connected to the digital platform.

FIFA also clarified that the FIFA Fan ID is optional and does not replace an official match ticket, visa or travel document for entry into Canada, Mexico or the United States.

Instead, the card is meant to enhance the overall matchday atmosphere and provide supporters with an additional layer of interaction during the tournament.

The collectible element is also expected to become popular among traveling fans attending matches in multiple cities. FIFA is encouraging supporters to keep and reuse their cards throughout the competition as new content and features become available.

World Cup 2026 prepares for millions of visiting supporters

FIFA World Cup 2026 is expected to become the most attended edition of the tournament ever staged, with more than six million fans projected to attend matches across North America.

Host cities including Toronto, Vancouver, Mexico City, Los Angeles, Miami and New York are already preparing for a massive influx of international visitors ahead of kickoff next month.

Canada will host matches in Toronto and Vancouver, including the Canadian men’s national team opening its tournament on home soil in Toronto on June 12.
