TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays have added infield depth and international signing flexibility, acquiring Dub Gleed and bonus pool space from the Miami Marlins in exchange for infielder Leo Jiménez.

The move reflects a shift toward long-term roster building, with Toronto bringing in a 23-year-old prospect who showed on-base ability in his first professional season. Gleed spent 2025 moving across four minor league levels in the Marlins system, posting a .252/.391/.347 slash line over 71 games. He recorded 15 doubles, two home runs, and 26 RBI, while maintaining a 75.9 percent contact rate and a .738 OPS.
A right-handed hitter listed at 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, Gleed was selected in the ninth round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of UC Irvine. His collegiate track record points to a consistent offensive profile. Over three seasons from 2022 to 2024, he hit .302 across 138 games, producing 53 extra-base hits and 122 RBI with an .856 OPS.
The Blue Jays’ interest appears tied to that combination of contact and plate discipline. Gleed’s .391 on-base percentage in his first professional campaign stands out, particularly for a player adjusting to multiple levels within a single season. His ability to reach base at a high rate could fit into Toronto’s broader emphasis on lineup versatility and depth across the system.
In addition to Gleed, Toronto also acquires international signing bonus pool space, a key asset for clubs looking to remain active in the global amateur market. That added flexibility may prove as significant as the player return, depending on how the Blue Jays approach upcoming international signing periods.
Heading to Miami is Jiménez, a 24-year-old infielder who spent parts of two seasons with Toronto at the major league level. He appeared in 18 games for the Blue Jays in 2025 and saw additional time at Triple-A Buffalo, where he produced a .304/.437/.375 line across 19 games. His approach at the plate translated well at that level, highlighted by a 15.5 percent walk rate and an .812 OPS.
At the major league level, Jiménez appeared in 81 career games with Toronto, hitting .207/.303/.332 with 11 doubles, five home runs, and 20 RBI. Defensively, he split time between shortstop and second base, posting a .983 fielding percentage.
Originally signed by the Blue Jays as an international free agent in 2017 out of Chitré, Panama, Jiménez developed through the organization’s system before reaching the majors. His departure opens a spot in Toronto’s infield depth chart while providing Miami with a player who has already logged MLB experience and demonstrated plate discipline in the upper minors.
From Toronto’s perspective, the deal represents a calculated exchange of near-term depth for future upside and financial flexibility. Gleed remains early in his professional development but brings a profile that aligns with the organization’s interest in contact-oriented hitters who can control at-bats.
