Toronto FC signs Dániel Sallói to contract extension through 2027 MLS season
Toronto FC has extended winger Dániel Sallói’s contract until the end of the 2027 MLS season, with an option for 2027-28. This move aims to provide stability for both player and club as Sallói quickly becomes a vital part of Toronto’s revamped attack, building on his successful tenure at Sporting Kansas City.
Toronto FC has agreed to a contract extension with winger Dániel Sallói through the 2027 Major League Soccer season, with an option for the 2027-28 campaign.
The deal ensures long-term stability for both the player and the club, coming shortly after Sallói’s arrival ahead of the 2026 MLS season.
General manager Jason Hernandez said the extension was part of the club’s initial plan when pursuing the Hungarian attacker.
“We believed that Dániel should not arrive at TFC on an expiring contract,” Hernandez said. “Aligning on an extension early allowed him to focus on integrating with the team and performing at his best.”
Strong start to life in Toronto
Sallói has made an immediate impact since joining Toronto FC.
Through his first four MLS appearances, the 29-year-old has scored two goals, including the game-winner in Toronto’s 1-0 victory over FC Cincinnati on March 8.
His early performances have provided a boost to a revamped Toronto attack, positioning him as a key piece in the club’s ongoing rebuild.
Proven track record with Sporting Kansas City
Before his move to Toronto, Sallói spent a decade with Sporting Kansas City, where he developed into one of the club’s most consistent attacking players.
Across all competitions, he made 287 appearances, recording 67 goals and 47 assists.
Sallói first joined Sporting KC as a Homegrown Player in 2016 and made his MLS debut in 2017.
One of his earliest highlights came that same year when he scored the winning goal in the U.S. Open Cup Final, helping Sporting secure the title.
Career highlights and international experience
Sallói’s standout individual season came in 2018, when he won the club’s Golden Boot after tallying 16 goals and seven assists across all competitions.
In 2021, he was named an MLS All-Star and was a finalist for both the league’s MVP award and Comeback Player of the Year after recording 16 goals and 10 assists.
At the international level, Sallói has earned four caps with the Hungarian national team, making his debut in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against England in 2021.
Key piece in Toronto’s long-term project
The extension signals Toronto FC’s confidence in Sallói as a central part of its long-term project.
With the club undergoing a roster transformation ahead of its 20th MLS season, securing a proven attacking option provides continuity as Toronto looks to build consistency and compete in the Eastern Conference.
Sallói is expected to remain a key contributor as the Reds continue their 2026 campaign.
