Brazilian football icon Ronaldinho Toronto BMO Field is set to headline a special exhibition match in Toronto this spring.

The former Ballon d’Or winner will lead the Brazil Legends team against a group of Toronto FC legends in a one-night event at BMO Field on May 8, organizers announced Tuesday. The match will mark the first time Ronaldinho plays in Toronto.

The exhibition, organized by the Living Legends platform, will feature several former international stars and aims to celebrate the sport’s history while building excitement ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across Canada, the United States and Mexico.

Ronaldinho will be joined by fellow Brazilian legends including Adriano, Emerson and Maicon.

Toronto FC Legends are expected to feature several players who helped define the club’s early years in Major League Soccer, including Sebastian Giovinco, Jozy Altidore, Julian de Guzman and Dwayne De Rosario.

The event will also serve as one of the first major soccer matches played inside BMO Field following the stadium’s expansion ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Celebration of soccer in Toronto

Organizers say the match is designed to bring together international football history with Toronto’s local soccer culture.

“Toronto is ready for a moment like this,” said Diogo Snow, co-founder of Living Legends. “Bringing Brazilian legends together with Toronto FC icons and creating something special for fans is what this event is about.”

Ronaldinho said he is looking forward to experiencing the city’s soccer atmosphere for the first time.

“I’ve played in many cities around the world, but this will be my first time playing at BMO Field in Toronto,” Ronaldinho said. “I’ve heard a lot about the passion for football here and I’m excited to experience the energy of the fans.”

Giovinco returns to BMO Field

Former Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco will lead the local legends squad.

Giovinco was one of the most influential players in club history, helping Toronto capture the domestic treble in 2017 with the MLS Cup, Supporters’ Shield and Canadian Championship.

“To come back and share the pitch with former teammates and legends of the sport in front of the fans at BMO Field will be a special moment,” Giovinco said.

Toronto FC general manager Jason Hernandez said the event arrives at an important moment for the sport in the city.

“Our city is preparing to welcome the world this summer, and a match like this is a great celebration of the game for the fans who have supported Toronto FC for the past two decades,” Hernandez said.

Tickets and fan experiences

Tickets for the match will be available through Ticketmaster, with prices starting at $45.

A presale for Toronto FC season ticket holders begins March 11, followed by general public sales on March 12.

Fans will also have access to hospitality packages, VIP meet-and-greet experiences and limited-edition merchandise connected to the event.

The May 8 match will be the inaugural event for the Living Legends series, which aims to bring former football stars together in exhibition matches around the world.
